Worship this Sunday at 9:30 AM: “Do you love me?” Jesus asks Peter three times. All three times Peter responds in the affirmative, “You know I love you.” And each time Jesus gives Peter a specific instruction: to tend and feed Jesus’ lambs and sheep. The ethos here reflects Jesus’ moral philosophy from Matthew 25 – what you do for others is an act of love toward me. And it’s not love as an abstract feeling of affection or concern, but as concrete action. Jesus reminds Peter (and the readers of the text) that love is best understood as a verb, like feeding, tending, and caregiving. How can we understand love as a practice as well as a feeling? Let’s discuss that this Sunday. May 4 is the first Sunday of the month, so the in-person congregation will receive Holy Communion. Communion elements may be gathered and received by those participating online as well.
